Homemade Fried Donuts

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (more for dusting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit until frothy (about 5-10 minutes).
  2. Make Dough: In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with eggs, melted butter, flour, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Shape Donuts: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out donuts with a donut cutter or round cookie cutter and a smaller cutter for the holes.
  6. Second Rise: Place shaped donuts on a floured surface, cover, and let rise until puffed up, about 30 minutes.
  7. Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches until golden brown on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze. Dip or drizzle over warm donuts.

Enjoy!
