Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 1/3 cups warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- Optional: 2 teaspoons garlic powder or Italian seasoning for flavored crust
Directions
- Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Mix Dough: Add olive oil, salt, and gradually add flour to the yeast mixture, starting with 3 1/2 cups of flour (add garlic powder or Italian seasoning if desired). Stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour, a little at a time, until a manageable dough is achieved.
- Knead: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 6-8 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. Add a little more flour if the dough becomes sticky during kneading.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to grease the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape and Second Rise: Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough in half (for two pizzas) or leave whole for one large pizza. Roll out or press the dough into your desired shape on a baking sheet or pizza pan. Cover and let it rise for an additional 20-30 minutes to get that signature Pizza Hut crust thickness.
- Prebake (Optional): For a crispier crust, prebake the shaped dough at 425°F (220°C) for 6-7 minutes before adding toppings. This step is optional.
- Add Toppings and Bake: Top your pizza dough with your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Enjoy!
